Start on the road to employment with a cause! Intern with BAGLY and help us fight for social justice, LGBTQ youth rights, and more

For over thirty years, BAGLY’s weekly programing and annual social events have provided safe, supportive, non-exploitative, and culturally competent spaces where LGBTQ youth can access social support and clinical services, and develop leadership skills while building a community.  Over 3,000 youth ages 22 and under who are LGBTQ or questioning their sexual/gender identity participate in BAGLY’s Boston based programming every year.

Those interested in interning with BAGLY should send a cover letter and resume to  Please be sure to include the title of the internship you are applying for in the subject line.  Your application will be reviewed and then passed on to the appropriate staff person.  All internships are unpaid; however interns gain experience working in New England’s oldest LGBTQ youth organization, as well as, experience in marketing, development, web applications, and advocacy.

  • Commitment to youth leadership and youth development, as well as the diversity of youth experience and backgrounds
  • Experience, or a desire to work, in a social justice framework, and building anti-oppressive environments for LGBTQ youth
  • Experience, and interest in LGBTQ topics
  • Commitment to non-judgmental, sex-positive information and messages, and working within a harm reduction framework
  • Office skills and/or some experience in working with Microsoft or Mac applications

Internships are available in the following areas:

Database Entry and Management Intern

The Database Entry and Management Intern will be responsible for maintaining BAGLY’s contact lists, mailing lists, and other forms of archived information.  This position will require maintaining BAGLY’s current database, as well as managing new information. 

This position will allow for individuals to gain experience with Salesforce CRM, Constant Contact, Survey Monkey, and other multimedia platforms that are integral in today’s non-profit and marketing community.  Opportunities for skills development will may also be offered via webinars, local conferences, and networking events.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Experience in Data Entry
  • Demonstrates strong organizational and task oriented skills
  • Willingness to learn
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Familiarity with Salesforce preferred but not required

Social Media Intern

BAGLY’ s Social Media Intern will be responsible for updating BAGLY’s blog, the BAGLY Beat, as well as coordinating all of BAGLY’s social media platforms.  This will include maintaining current platforms, as well as finding new and innovative ways to engage communities through social media, recruiting bloggers for the BAGLY Beat, and helping to develop social media marketing campaigns for events and programming. 

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Strong design experience/ability
  • Familiarity with Microsoft applications, Adobe, and/or Photoshop
  • Strong experience with Social Media and Outreach
  • Excellent writing and editing skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Demonstrates initiative and strong motivation
  • Awareness and attention to relevant current events and issues


Events Intern

The Events Intern will be responsible for working with the Development and Marketing team on research, sponsorships, outreach, and management of event production and advertisement.  This internship requires individuals willing to think critically and creatively in the process of producing and planning events, gaining sponsorships, and engaging the community.  Duties under this internship will involve mailings, printing marketing materials, as well as keeping an organized database of potential sponsorships, donors, and other production needs.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Familiarity with Microsoft applications
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong social skills and initiative
  • Experience with organizing, event production, or marketing
  • Excellent time-management skills

Development Intern

Interns in this position will be responsible for researching prospective funding opportunities, organizing past grant applications, and helping to maintain contact with current, past, and future funding institutions.  Individuals in this position will be expected to help with mailings, research fundraising strategies, and manage an organized database of potential fundraising opportunities.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Knowledge of grant writing/research
  • Familiarity or interest in fundraising and/or research
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Demonstrates strategic and creative thinking
  • Excellent written and oral skills
  • Strong data maintenance and management
